Josie - The puppy mill momma

Josie and her baby are both doing well.  We made a trip to see the Adel Vets to be sure both were healthy.  Poor Josie has terrible teeth due to neglect and will need to have them take care of after she is done nursing her baby.  I am still anxiously waiting for the puppy's eyes to open.

Josie is getting more comfortable around us, she wil come greet me when I come in the door, but then will run back to her crate her baby.  But she will get there.  I see improvments everyday.

I will keep you posted Josie and her baby as they grow more confident.

Puppy Mill Closure

I'm happy to report that M&M Kennels is going out of business!  The USDA and the Iowa Dept. of Ag will not renew his licenses!  While we do not know what he has done with a large percentage of his dogs, we do know that 42 dogs made it out safely because we picked them up on Sunday!  Mangler was very strict about he could show up on his property and agreed to let AHeinz57's van, one vehicle and 3 people come to pick up dogs.  So, Kathy McGee quickly packed the van with crates and bedding.  Susan Ballard and I (Amy Heinz) took off at 9:00 a.m. and drove 3 1/2 hours to Delmar, IA.  John Rhoades happened to be visiting his uncle in Davenport for Thanksgiving with Vicky and the kids, so he agreed to meet us out there and help us load dogs.  We thought we were picking up 15 dogs, but came back with 42 dogs!  Dogs were dispersed to various rescues along the way back to Des Moines.  We arrived back in Des Moines at 7 p.m.   Kathy McGee drove the rest of the dogs to Clear Lake, IA where some went to rescue in Jewell, IA and the some continued north to Minnesota.  Kathy finally returned home around 1 a.m.  AHeinz57 now has 10 extra dogs and is working hard to make them feel loved, safe and secure.

The Great Howlaween Carnival

We had a great time at the Grrrreat Howlaween Carnival at Greys Lake!  Dog food was donated and distributed to all of the rescues that attended and money was raised toward a dog park in Des Moines.  Many of our rescue dogs were on hand to greet all those that attended.

Thanks to Des Moines Park and Rec for organizing this event!
