Buford

Buford came to us as a stray, so much of his past remains a mystery. His age and breed are our best estimates, but one thing we've learned for certain is that beneath his tough exterior is a dog who just wants someone he can trust.

When Buford first arrived, he was understandably nervous and unsure of the world around him. With time, patience, plenty of treats, and the dedication of our staff and volunteers, he's slowly started to let his guard down. Barrier reactivity has made introductions a little more challenging, but Buford is continuing to make progress and continues to gain confidence every day. Because of his barrier reactivity, we are requiring a home with a 6ft fence for his safety and others.

Once you've earned his trust, Buford can be a lovebug. He thinks he's a lap dog, he loves treats, enjoys a good game of tug, and is always up for chasing a ball. He keeps his kennel clean and is currently working on the important life skill of not treating his leash like a tug toy.

Buford isn't the kind of dog who falls in love with everyone instantly, but that's what makes his trust so special. He will need a patient home and a few meet-and-greets in order to feel comfortable with new people. Once you're in his circle, you'll have a loyal companion for life. We haven't had the opportunity to test him with other dogs yet, so as with all our adoptions, he'll need to meet all human and furry family members before heading home. At this time, we do feel that a home without children would be best.
